RESIDENTIAL SUBURBAN GARDEN

"Based on the architectural era of this 1930's property,  I have used strong structural design thinking, bold use of colours and art deco shapes to create a contemporary outdoor living space which closely matches the client's brief."

FRONT GARDEN

Structurally, this design brings the garden to pavement level, to allow off-street parking.  A series of tiered flower beds feature along with shallow steps leading to the front door. This has created the space to develop visual interest through both the change of level and the introduction of the rusty-hued Corten steel materials for the deeply edged planting beds.

BACK GARDEN

Spanning the rear garden features a steel pergola, which frames the generous in-built seating area. The barbecue 'Nook to Cook' area boasts an in-built gas barbecue mounted on a floating granite shelf, cantilevered into the wall behind which allows lush grasses and ferns to grow underneath.

The client's love of tropical foliage has inspired the lush architectural planting throughout the garden.

GARDEN ROOM

The back garden is a contemporary design in keeping with the client's love of Victoriana, Gatsby and all things theatrical.

A key element of the brief was to include a garden room for entertaining in the garden throughout the year.

BACK GARDEN MASTERPLAN

The garden has been divided into separate areas along its length to provide different places to pause and entertain at levels within the garden.

Planting close to the property provides planting interest from within and encourages the client to venture into the rest of the garden.

INSPIRATION FROM JARDIN MAJORELLE

The client's love of the structural planting, architecture and colour palette at Jardin Majorelle, Marrakesh was a key inspiration for the design.

PLANTING PLANS

Plants were chosen throughout the scheme for their seasonal interests, architectural structure and suitability for the environmental conditions in both the front and back gardens.

"Inspired by nature, I have a fresh and creative approach to designing spaces that serve both the client and environment best."
