A small, low-maintenance front garden with effortless access and parking
In this road facing property in Princes Road, Wimbledon, the client wanted a contemporary and understated front garden with space to park his car more easily. They also wanted year-round planting interest, a degree of privacy and overall a garden with improved kerb appeal.
Given the limited space available for parking and bin storage, and because the client also wanted to use a resin permeable gravel surface, I created visual interest with sinuous curved planting beds to maximise the space and draw visitors in towards the front door.
The Original Garden
We addressed the issue of changing levels within the space by digging out the existing walls and paving to ensure the garden was one and the same level, gently sloped up to the front door.
We added width across the garden by removing the overly wide privet hedge and replacing it with a tall fence, over which we will train evergreen climbers and roses.

This allows the client to park their car at an angle to the property, affording easy access for all passengers, whilst leaving room for easy transition along the front path to the front door.
To create a greater sense of arrival, we installed a single, wide bullnosed Sawn Yorkstone Step at the threshold of the front door.
The Newly Planted Garden
