A small, contemporary, low-maintenance family and dog-friendly garden
This small 7x5m contemporary, low-maintenance family and dog-friendly garden design in South West London incorporates a lush, tropical theme inspired by my client’s Asian heritage.
In keeping with the property’s minimalist contemporary extension, I created a contemporary garden with plank paving stepping stones, to allow plenty of low growing evergreen creepers to grow in between, giving an illusion of grass without the need for ongoing maintenance.
I considered also the children and family’s labrador need for soft ground on which to relax and play in the garden too.

The pergola with slats provides an attractive, weather-proof option for all the family to enjoy their new garden for many more months of the year than they could before.
My client wanted an abundance of plants to enhance and increase her enjoyment of the space so, inspired by her Asian heritage, I incorporated a tropical, lush theme featuring large architectural leaves and vivid purples, cerise and orange flowering perennials and shrubs.
Overall, I wanted to create a private sanctuary for the whole family to enjoy all year round. A new pergola provides the family with continuous enjoyment and enhanced privacy afforded by the placement of new trees. Strategically planted young trees provide additional privacy for the family whilst inside their house too.
